CT NEWINGTON — Town Council held second budget hearing as residents expressed concerns on property taxes. Residents at the public hearing on the tentative FY 2026-2027 budget raised alarm about property tax increases resulting from a town reassessment. The $158.3 million tentative budget includes $96.8 million for Board of Education spending.

Residents reported anticipated tax increases ranging from 36 to 47 percent, noting that residential properties account for 72.8 percent of Newington's tax base. Mayor Jon Trister stated the council would reconvene later that day to make further budget changes. Deputy Mayor Kim Radda moved to close the hearing; the motion passed 8-0.
