CT NEWINGTON — Newington Town Council approved 415,000 dollars in capital improvements cuts and operating reductions following public concerns over property revaluation impacts. The council voted unanimously on ten adjustments, including eliminating 100,000 dollars from Grounds Maintenance Garage work and 200,000 dollars from Library HVAC replacement funds, along with reductions to Dial-A-Ride and Parks and Recreation programs. Mayor Jon Trister set the new mill rate at 30.64.
Majority Leader Matthew Plourd and Minority Leader Gail Budrejko led the budget adjustments, explaining that the property revaluation created a discrepancy between commercial and residential property assessments requiring the cuts.
