CT NEWINGTON — The commission deferred a 41-unit apartment proposal and confronted new state housing mandates. Premier Real Estate Services II's proposal was continued to February 25 for applicant counsel Andrew R. Morin to submit supplemental materials; the motion passed unanimously, 7-0.
Town Planner Paul Dickson discussed Connecticut Public Act 25-1, requiring zoning changes by July 1, 2026. The law mandates allowing 2-to-9-unit buildings on commercial lots via summary review and eliminates parking minimums for smaller developments. Commissioners raised concerns about sidewalks and fire access; Dickson noted market realities would limit what gets built.
