CT NEWINGTON — The Newington Economic Development Commission approved December meeting minutes unanimously with 7 votes and reviewed ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting local commerce. Chair Deanna Reney updated new members on a welcome-letter program that has recognized 16 established businesses, including Morensen's after 112 years in town, with plans to send approximately 16 additional letters by end of January. The Passport Program, completed for a second year in 2025 and tied to Small Business Saturday, will continue in 2026 with expanded flyers and a business survey to confirm participation.
Town branding work remains in development pending potential approval from Town Council and appointment of a full or part-time Economic Development director. Assistant Town Planner Erik Hinckley reported ongoing commercial activity including Price Shopper's rebranding to Market 32, a convenience store conversion to liquor, and Prime Burger's liquor license modification request.
