CT NEWINGTON — The Newington Economic Development Commission approved its May minutes unanimously and discussed allocating roughly $2,000 in surplus Passport Program and Hobby Odyssey funds toward planting flowers in downtown Main Street beds with Parks and Recreation coordination. Staff Liaison Erik Hinckley reported the town received a $2 million grant for the town center with no designated purpose yet; Chair Deanna Reney and Commissioner Jim Wiltshire sit on the reactivated steering committee, set to convene June 23. Hinckley also noted Arby's closed, Market 32 is expected July 11 after Price Chopper closes, and a 125,000-square-foot furniture plaza building is now vacant after relocating to Waterbury.

Commissioner Hunter Gillen will attend a CT MainStreet seminar and report back to the Commission.
