CT NEWINGTON — Newington Town Council cut $3.5 million from its budget and reduced the proposed mill rate to 30.64 from 31.48. Mayor Jon Trister and councilors voted unanimously on eighteen separate adjustments, including a $1 million deferral of the animal control shelter building fund and $800,000 from Board of Education buses. Town Assessor Danielle Dippolino presented a two-year phase-in scenario that would reduce first-year residential tax increases from 17.28 to 13.54 percent, but the council deferred any vote on the measure.

Council also approved $198,637.33 in capital improvement transfers and accepted resignations from Carol Anest of the Town Pools Public Building Commission and Peter Hoffman of the Town Plan and Zoning Commission.
