CT NEWINGTON — Newington Town Council unanimously approved a four-year public safety contract covering police officers and dispatchers through June 30, 2030. Councilor Matthew Plourd moved the agreement, which requires approximately $242,371 in additional town costs during the current fiscal year to be covered through the Special Contingency line-item and transferred after January 1, 2027. The accord includes wage increases of 2.5 percent effective July 1, expansion of retiree health insurance benefits for officers hired after October 1, 2013, and elimination of unpaid "giveback days" for patrol officers.
Councilor Gail Budrejko noted the settlement avoided arbitration.
