Permanent Municipal Building Commission · Meeting of January 6, 2026

CT NEWINGTON — Newington Building Commission installed its first officers and launched two major project reviews. Stephen Woods was unanimously elected chair, with Stanley Sobieski as vice chair and Joe Harpie as secretary. The commission began work on an urgent animal shelter facility decision after the owner of Connecticut K-9, which the town currently leases, announced plans to sell.

The Police Department had proposed two options: purchasing that facility for approximately $800,000 plus $500,000 in upgrades, or constructing a new facility on town-owned land with potential partnership to Rocky Hill. The commission also reviewed the Chapman Street fire station, with $335,000 available for renovation. Joint Town Council meetings on both projects will follow.
