Town Plan & Zoning Commission · Meeting of March 25, 2026
CT NEWINGTON — Newington zoning board backed K-9 facility purchase with conditions. The Town Plan and Zoning Commission unanimously approved Petition TPZ-26-1, a favorable referral on the town's potential purchase of the Connecticut K-9 Education Center at 239 Maple Hill Avenue (rear), contingent on formalizing permanent legal access. Town Manager Jonathan Altshul had recommended the purchase to the Town Council through the Permanent Municipal Building Committee as more cost-effective than leasing a Bloomfield facility at $60,000 per year.
The Commission also reviewed state housing-growth requirements under Public Act 25-1, which will require zoning changes by July 1. Draft amendments are scheduled for public hearings in May.
